Merritt, all members of the Legislature now in session at Toronto. 15th. 5. Had business converse with Mr. John Sutherland & M.T. Moore. 6. A Printer of the name of Powell called for employment at our Office & was entertained at the house. 17th. 2d. Printed 25 of 1/8 Bills for Mr. Walthew, Lecture Mechanics' Institute. 19th June 1850. 2d. Annoyed at the nuisance of the War System - Three soldiers sent to our House for accommodation. 3d. Notwithstanding Coynes being due $4 ½ for Printing recently done for them, I paid 7 ½ d for ½ Bush. Of Oats received from them (suppose 5 Inst.). Bought also of them for ready money paid (on a/c of Catherine & Margery J.) 1 Grey Linen Table Cloth, 2/6, and 3 yards black Lining, 1/10 ½ - 4/4 ½. 4th. Mr. Powell set up for me a title page for my account of my sojourn in the Island of Great Britain from 15 July, 1840, to 11th April, 1841, with critical observations. 20th June 1850. 3d. Despatched 1st Letter to J. Leslie, Provincial Secretary. 2d. One Wm. Notman Esq. M.P.P. 3d. Despatched 150 Magistrates Blanks per Post Office, Printed for John Alexander, Vienna. 4th. The Printer, Mr. C.A. Powell, of Buffalo, who was accommodated with us from 15th Inst. Proceeded to Buffalo after breakfast. Lent him $1.00. 5th. Printed 100 Summons. 6th. Wrote & despatched late a letter to Hon. W.H. Merritt, M.P.P. Toronto. 22d. June 1850. 4th. James C. distributed a lot of Job Type. The 25th of June 1850. 4th. Observed an announcement of a Convention of men conducting the Western Canada Press to be held at Toronto on the 3d. July proximo. 6th. Printed 102 of 1/6 Bills for a Mr. Sheppard of Long Point Foundry. 8th. We arose & went out at night to see Vanbuskirk's Distillery on Fire. It was all burnt up. 29th day of June 1850. 4. Recd. From Mr. Notman a Printed paper shewing his Law Reform measure. The 1st day of July. 5th. Wrote an address for the convention of the Press to be held at Toronto on 3d. Inst. The 2d. Day of July 1850. 3d. Despatched a Note with enclosures to the Editor of the Examiner, Toronto - The enclosures for the perusal of the delegates of the Press meeting in Toronto tomorrow. 5th. Wrote an address to the Legislature on the subject of a Letter to the Provincial Secretary of 20 ultimo enclosed in a Note to the Prov. Sec. Despatched for tomorrow's mail proceeding at 9 ½ A.M. The 3d. Day of July 1850. 4th. Printed 32 1/8 Bills for Clunas & Hunt - Margary J. composed. 4th. 5. Recd. An order from Sparta. 5th July 1850. 3. Was engaged in setting in Type Bill of 1/4 Sheet. 4. Cousin J. Sutherland called & took Tea with us. 6th. 3d. I engaged in practical Printing. 20 Bills for Sparta. The 10th day of July 1850. 2d. Hired a Carriage & proceeded to London with dear C. 3d. In London effected business at S. Morrill &c. & Recd. $22 3/40. 4th. Paid Mr. Reid, Book seller & Binder 16/ Cy for 1 Ream Paper recd. Last year. 7. Enquired about Mr. J. R. Lavell. 8. Do.
